Reverend
David More Maynard was raised a Unitarian in Wilmington,
Delaware.
His undergraduate work was at Harvard College (A.B. 1970) and his
seminary
was Starr King School for the Ministry (M.Div. 1975). His internship
was
under Dr. Alan Deale in Portland, Oregon. He was ordained by the First
Unitarian Society of San Francisco in November, 1975. He served
as
minister to the Universalist Unitarian Church in Peoria, Illinois and
the
First Unitarian Church in Nashville, Tennessee and from 1999-2002 as
Consulting
Minister to the West Seattle UU Fellowship..
In
1995 Reverend Maynard and his family returned to Portland, Oregon after
eighteen years away. Until July, 1999 he worked as a counselor in
an alcohol and drug treatment program in Portland dealing primarily
with
heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine addicts. He is a Certified
Alcohol
and Drug Counselor.
In
addition to his ministry, Reverend Maynard works as a mediator for
Small
Claims Court and for Resolutions Northwest, a teen-parent family
mediation
service. He also trains new mediators. He is a former
member
of the Prairie Group, a scholarly gathering of UU clergy for which he
has
written several papers. He has published in collections of
worship
materials and in the addiction and recovery field. He has addressed
international
audiences on the latter subject. Other interests include
swimming,
locksmithing, electrical wiring and computer instruction.
Reverend
Maynard is married to Jane Maynard, currently a school bus driver and
avid
gardener and formerly a public school teacher. They have four
children
ranging from ages 34 to 26 living in California and Pennsylvania.
They also have two grandchildren. During their seven years in
Portland
they have been listed in the UU Homecomings Bed and Breakfast guide,
welcoming
UUs from across the nation to their storybook home.
