April, 2023

It’s easy to become dispirited lately. Winter clings despite our fervent desire for Spring. The national news is bleak: innocent children once again gunned down in their schoolrooms; a former president is indicted for multiple felonies; horrific weather events devastate people all over the country; and so many are homeless.

In times like these, many of us take comfort in our church. Eastrose has been around for over 60 years. Since becoming a member in 2009, I’ve depended on my church, which is all of you, being there for me. You’ve helped me celebrate special times and grieved with me as well. I know I am not the only one who feels like this. We are family.

We will soon kick off our annual canvass campaign. You’ve heard it said many times over the years that we are self-supporting. Your financial contributions pay for everything—salaries, building and grounds maintenance, speakers, musicians, cleaning and supplies, including weekly coffee. Without your help, we would not exist.

This year’s theme — Brightening Our Flame — is fitting as Eastrose concludes 14 months of being lay led and gets ready to welcome Reverend Robin Zucker in four months. Our chalice light will be glowing more brightly!

Thank you, Suzie Matranga-Watson, for leading this incredibly important effort. Suzie could use help with all sorts of tasks, so please say yes when asked.
