Hello hikers and friends.
This week, we will visit an old friend, Mt. Tabor Park for a hike of approximately 4.0 miles with an elevation gain of 483 ft. Most of the trails in the park are easy, but some are a bit steep. When this description was written on Thu 12/11 the weather was expected to be in the 40’s with a chance of morning rain but that was nearly a week ago, so that is expected to change.
We will meet at Patty’s house, 9800 SE Harrison at 9am, where we can take the bus to the park if we choose to do so. Bring your lunch to eat back at our house. We will have tea and Irish Soda bread ready for you.
Here is the map constructed as if we are taking the bus:

We will hike the Founder’s Trail to and including the Collins Loop, approximately 2.9 miles in total. Then, visit the gift shop and finally, head to a local vegan-friendly restaurant. If you are coming contact Katie Larsell by 7pm on Tuesday night by emailing Katie L. or texting her at 5zero3-3two7-one6one2.

The hike December 3, Wednesday, is locally located, on the Butler Park Greenway trail, just a few minutes from old town Gresham. We scouted it out Nov. 20, and it is quite beautiful, with large native canopy trees, lots of birds, and we actually saw no invasive plant species in the understory.
We will all meet at Nesse’s house at 9AM, bringing our sack lunches, for eating later after the hike. The hike begins at Butler Creek Park, and is 1.7 miles each way (3.4 miles total), with only a 200 ft total elevation gain. On a few sections, hiking down, it might be nice to have hiking poles? The route takes you past Binford Lake, and follows a creek at the forest floor, to a bridge over the Johnson creek near the end. The hike eventually joins the Springwater bike and walking trail, and then we turn around. After the hike we can meet at Nesse’s house to eat our sack lunches, and a vegan blueberry cake dessert. Email Anne N if you are coming or reply to the group email address.
