Homecoming – Go Out Into the World in Peace: Living Our Benediction

Each Sunday we recite a unison Benediction, adapted from the Book of Thessalonians. It begins, “Go Out Into the World in Peace” and ends with “Honor All Beings”. In between, we are encouraged to have courage, support the weak and the suffering, resist evil, and hold onto what is good. Each line of the passage can be envisioned as a segment of pavement that we can choose to  walk across in our daily rounds. In this sermon for Homecoming Sunday, we’ll explore what it might mean for us in our shared ministry to walk the path of our benediction.

We’ll  share our Water Communion Ceremony with a four-part Honoring Ritual, so bring a small container of water from a special place or that symbolizes that place (even your backyard hose or kitchen faucet). We’ll have some water on hand, too. This year our communion will include a special ritual called “Empty Cups for GAZA.”
